Catherine has also taught courses on the history of Newlyn and Lamorna  Artists for Adult Education in Cornwall and is an Arts Society lecturer. She believes in sharing the in depth knowledge she has acquired over the years on Cornish art as a curator and writer with like minded art enthusiasts. They focus on art history and the appreciation of art from a practical and visual point of view.Her lectures aim to inform and entertain. No previous knowledge or experience is required. Reading lists and suggested sources of further information are supplied. Each session of Catherine's courses  last 2 hours with a break at half time, feature Powerpoint slides of paintings and photographs delivered by Catherine but discussion and input from attendants is encouraged.

Courses cost £140 for all seven weeks.

Study the Art Collections of Cornwall –Penlee House Gallery and Museum’s
Fine & Decorative Art Collection
This 7 week course looks thematically through time at the rich and diverse collection kept at Penlee House. Beginning with portraits and people we look behind the faces of  local dignitaries and famous personalities from the 18th to the 20th centuries as well as artist’s self portraits such as those by Stanhope Forbes, Dod Procter, Fred Hall, and Bernard Leach.The development of Penzance and Newlyn are seen through prints, drawings, watercolours, posters and paintings. We also look at other landscapes and buildings of Cornwall. The marine and bird life of Cornwall is also represented with paintings by H.S.Tuke. C.N.Hemy and E. Bouverie Hoyton. The collection also includes views of European cities by artists such as Albert Goethals as well as artists who came from abroad to paint in Cornwall such as Helene Schjerfbeck. Penlee has fine examples of Newlyn copper, ceramics and Cryséde textiles as well as an extensive photographic archive, which shall all be surveyed on this course.

Study the Art Collections of Cornwall – Falmouth Art Gallery's  Fine Art and Craft collection  
In this 7 week course we will look in depth at the history of Falmouth Art Gallery;  from the founding of its art collection by Alfred De Pass in the 1920s and 30s to  the gallery as it is today. The core collection of Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian British Impressionist paintings as well as Old master drawings and prints given by De Pass will be surveyed. Including artists such as Durer, Rembrandt, E.C. Burne-Jones, J.W.Waterhouse, J.Arnesby Brown and A.J.Munnings.The gallery also has many works by artists who painted in and around Falmouth from the 19th century to the present day and these will be reviewed along with its collection of works by women artists.  The RCPS Tuke Collection  which is the largest public collection of Tuke’s work in the UK will also be analysed. The range of the gallery’s modern and contemporary collection of photographs, drawings, prints and sculpture (including automata), will be shown as well as a selection of bequests made of individual artists work since 2000 including  Eric Newton, Lee Miller, Mark Webster, Harry Ousy and Grace Gardner.
