This book takes us on a journey through the artistic life of one of Britain’s best Impressionist artists. From his childhood in York, where he was born to a philanthropic Quaker family, through his education at the Slade, Florence Academy and Lauren's Atelier in Paris, to his heyday as a maritime painter, portraitist, watercolour artist and figure painter of the male nude outdoors. Although Tuke travelled frequently especially to the Mediterranean, he made Falmouth, Cornwall his base from 1885 until his death in 1929. This book which is lavishly illustrated in full colour, demonstrates the significance of the Mediterranean and Cornish light in Tuke’s work.
