The History of Cornish Gardens, Houses, Families and Art Collections Part 2
Course Introduction
In this 6 week course we look at the history of the internationally renowned St. Michael’s Mount, its buildings and contents as well as the terraced and walled gardens that date back to medieval times. We trace the history of the St. Aubyn family from Clowance to St. Michael’s’ Mount.
We then look at Pencarrow, near Bodmin, home to the Molesworth-St. Aubyn family. The gardens and houses of Trewidden and Trengwainton created by the Bolitho family are compared whilst the restoration of the gardens of Tregrehan, St. Austell and its famous neighbour Heligan Gardens are also discussed here.
The exotic Mediterranean sculpture gardens of Lamorran, St. Mawes, Barbara Hepworth Museum, St. Ives and Tremenheere, Gulval complete this section of the some of the Great Gardens of Cornwall.
The course ends with a group guided tour of a garden covered on the course (if sufficient numbers) – cost extra. Date and time to be confirmed.
